The trade association representing commercial service airports in the United States and Canada has released its latest rankings of the busiest airports in North America, and Orlando International Airport is among the Top 10.
According to Airports Council International – North America, which released its 2023 North American Airport Traffic Summary earlier this month, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the 7th busiest airport in the U.S.
In 2023, MCO had a total of more than 57 million passengers, which is a 15.1% increase compared to the previous year. This is the largest growth among U.S. airports.
Earlier this year, in March, MCO set a new single-day record for most passengers with over 200,000.
MCO remains the busiest airport in Florida. Miami International Airport (MIA) also ranked among the airports with the highest passenger traffic in 2023, securing the 10th spot with over 52 million passengers.
Airports Council International – North America used passenger, cargo, and aircraft operations data from 275 North American Airports to compile the 2023 rankings. Overall, airports across the country saw a nearly 12% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2022, with domestic travel increasing by 9.5% and international travel showing a growth rate of around 28%.
The busiest airport in the U.S., according to last year’s traffic summary, is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), which saw a total of over 104 million passengers. This was an increase of 11.7% compared to 2022.
The following airports were also ranked among the Top 10 Busiest Airports in the U.S.:
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) – 2nd busiest with 81.7 million passengers (11.4% increase).
- Denver International Airport (DEN) – 3rd busiest with 77.8 million passengers (12.3% increase).
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): 4th busiest with 75 million passengers (13.8% increase).
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) – 5th busiest with 73.8 million passengers (8.1% increase).
- John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) – 6th busiest with 62.4 million passengers (13% increase).
- Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) – 8th busiest with 57.6 million passengers (9.4% increase).
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) – 9th busiest with 53.4 million passengers (11.9% increase).
