School officials and local law enforcement officers briefly placed a high school in Altamonte Springs on lockdown Wednesday morning after receiving reports that a student was in possession of a firearm.

According to the Altamonte Springs Police Department, at around 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, ASPD school resource officers learned that a possible firearm was on the Lake Brantley High School campus, which is located at 991 Sand Lake Road in Altamonte Springs.

The school resource officers immediately placed the high school on a “Code Yellow” lockdown. The police department stated that a male student was soon located on campus, and he allegedly had an unloaded handgun in his possession.

The unidentified student was placed under arrest. According to police, it was later determined that the recovered gun had been stolen out of Orange County.

After conducting an investigation, ASPD determined that the incident at Lake Brantley High School was “isolated,” and there were “no other suspected threats to the campus.” However, out of an “abundance of caution,” the campus was searched by specially trained K-9’s.

Once the campus was cleared by law enforcement, the lockdown was lifted.
