Orange County officials are opening multiple shelters across the area in preparation for Hurricane Milton.

By 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, the 11 shelters listed below will be open and operational for individuals needing to evacuate or seek shelter from Hurricane Milton. An asterisk (*) denotes pet-friendly shelters.

  • Apopka High School (555 Martin Street in Apopka)*.
  • Carver Middle School (4500 Columbia Street in Orlando)*.  
  • Colonial High School (6100 Oleander Drive in Orlando)*.
  • Lake Buena Vista High School (11305 Daryl Carter Parkway in Orlando).
  • Lake Nona High School (12500 Narcoossee Road in Orlando)*.
  • Oak Ridge High School (700 W Oak Ridge Road in Orlando).
  • Ocoee High School (1925 Ocoee Crown Point Parkway in Ocoee).
  • Odyssey Middle School (9290 Lee Vista Boulevard in Orlando).
  • Timber Springs Middle School (16001 Timber Park Lane in Orlando).
  • Union Park Middle School (1844 Westfall Drive in Orlando)*.
  • Wedgefield K-8 School (3835 Bancroft Boulevard in Orlando).

In addition, the following three shelters opened on Tuesday morning for persons with special needs (PSN):

  • Goldenrod Recreation Center (4863 N Goldenrod Road in Winter Park).  
  • Silver Star Recreation Center (2801 N Apopka Vineland Road in Orlando).
  • South Econ Community Park (3800 S Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando).

Orange County residents requiring a PSN shelter should dial 311 or 407-836-3111. LYNX will provide free transportation to shelter locations.

Identification cards are not required to enter the shelters, according to county officials.  

Anyone heading to one of the above shelters should bring essentials, including bedding, pillows, and toiletries.
