A 30-year-old man was arrested by police after he allegedly shot his estranged wife and her siblings outside a DeLand residence following an argument.

According to the DeLand Police Department, at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, officers responded to the 1000 block of Springdale Court in reference to shots being fired. When officers arrived, they found three victims who had sustained gunshot wounds.

DPD stated that an investigation revealed that the shooting incident “appears to have stemmed from a familial dispute” between a man – identified as DeLand resident Bertram Clinton Martin – and his estranged wife, her sister, and her brother.

While inside a local residence, Martin and the victims got into a heated argument. At one point during the verbal altercation, the three victims exited the home.

“Martin is believed to have followed (the victims) and shot them as they fled,” stated DPD in a media release on Monday, October 28.

All of the victims were transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford. One of the victims, the brother of Martin’s wife, was in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.

Martin had left the incident location prior to the arrival of law enforcement. However, he later turned himself in, and he was placed under arrest and transported to Volusia County Jail. He is currently being held without bond, and he is facing three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

In addition, Martin could face more charges pending the outcome of the DeLand Police Department’s investigation.
