An armed man accused of firing numerous rounds at condo units and law enforcement officers was shot and killed by a sniper with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office on Thanksgiving morning.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Kingston Shores condominiums (5500 block of Ocean Shore Boulevard in Ormond-by-the-Sea) in the morning hours on Thursday, November 28, in reference to a man firing multiple shots outside his condo at neighboring units.

The man, who was later identified by the sheriff’s office as Joseph DiFusco, also allegedly shot at a VCSO patrol vehicle.

The sheriff’s office stated that residents in the area were notified and evacuated, and traffic in the area was rerouted while deputies worked to resolve the incident.

During an ensuing standoff with law enforcement, which lasted several hours, DiFusco allegedly fired approximately 200 rounds.

The standoff came to an end when DiFusco was shot and killed by a VCSO sniper.

There were no other injuries reported.

“On behalf of Sheriff Chitwood, we would like to thank everyone for their cooperation, patience, and prayers during this potentially dangerous incident,” said the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post on Thursday.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting incident.
