Macy’s, Inc. announced on Thursday that it will be closing 66 store locations, including one in Altamonte Springs, as part of the company’s plan to return to “sustainable, profitable sales growth.”
These closures, which includes the Macy’s Altamonte Furniture and Mattress Gallery located at 820 West Town Parkway in Altamonte Springs, are part of the retailer’s “Bold New Chapter” strategy that was announced in February of 2024.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 9, 2025, a Macy’s representative said that this plan includes closing approximately 150 “underproductive” stores over a three-year period while investing in the company’s remaining 350 locations through fiscal year 2026.
A majority of the store location closures are expected to occur during the first quarter of 2025.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc.
While Macy’s Altamonte Furniture and Mattress Gallery will soon be closing, the company mentions on its website that customers can still shop at the nearby Macy’s store located at the Altamonte Mall.
