He was a 1949 graduate of Dormont HS, and attended Capital University in Bexley, Ohio in 1949 as a Pre-Med major. Early in his first semester at Capital, Tom met his soulmate, Lois Meier, and he proposed marriage after knowing her for two weeks. They were married on August 11, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church, in Hamilton, Ohio.

Tom enlisted in the Navy in early 1951, and served as an electronics technician in various assignments, ending with an assignment on a destroyer that took him around the world. In early 1955, Tom finished his service and became a dairy farmer in Fairfield, Ohio.

After 2 years of farming, IBM recruited Tom to work on mainframe computers because of his electronics background in the Navy. IBM took Tom and his family many places, including Ohio, Colorado, Minnesota, and New York. While working for IBM, Tom got a BS in Business from Malone College in Canton, Ohio, and an MS in Finance from the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Tom left IBM in 1973, and taught Finance and Accounting for 2 years at Youngstown State University. He and the family then moved to Plantation, FL in 1975, where he started working for a tech firm called Systems Engineering. The next year he took a job with Landmark Bank, and soon after became the Assistant Finance Director for Broward County. Tom finished his career as the Finance Director for Palm Beach County, retiring in 1993.

Tom and Lois moved to Lutheran Haven in Oviedo in 1998. Tom was active in the Lutheran Haven and St. Luke’s community, volunteering for many community events, helping to coordinate the construction of a daycare center, and participating in many local ministries. He was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2004 for his service to the community. He was also active in the Caregivers Support group, helping others even after the passing of Lois.

After his retirement, Tom and Lois traveled the world by taking cruises to such places as the Caribbean, Central and South America, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and Alaska. They also traveled extensively by car through North America, experiencing everything they could.

Tom was preceded in death by Lois, his wife of 69 years. He is survived by sons Thomas W. Elliott IV of Niles, OH, David A. Elliott of Westerville, OH, John M. Elliott of Orlando, FL, and daughter Cheryl A. Yeack of Dublin, OH. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
