Her mother died in childbirth, and she was lovingly raised by relatives Leo and Ann Musolf and their daughter Margie (Thomford) (deceased) in Lake City, Minnesota. Her beloved older sister Ruth Kuehl Winger (deceased) was one of the lights of her life.

Anita started her medical career in Minneapolis studying phlebotomy. She became a trusted and valued medical professional as a nurse. Her medical training and having been raised “close to the land” allowed this remarkable woman to weave together her passion for natural foods and the science (and art) of medicine. Her patients and family trusted and respected her intelligence and common sense.

It was in Lake City that homecoming queen Anita, and star athlete Jerome Richard McGinnis (deceased) married. With the quest of adventure and willingness to take a risk, they departed Lake City and eventually landed in Florida in 1972.

They raised 6 children: Jody (Ted) Brown, Susan (Robert) Flowers, Michael (deceased), Paula (Dan) Parsons, Jeffry, and Jennifer (Dennis) Brock.

Anita remarried to her loving husband Paul H. Porter combining to make a family of 10 children, and after 30 years of marriage includes 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her bonus kids include: Lisa (Stan) Nusbickel, Toni (Rick) Nicalik, Jan Brown, Joy (Mark, deceased) Noah, and Rick Porter.

Anita loved music and passed this love on to her children. She was a proud member of The Downtowners. As a hobby, Anita carried on her German tradition of baking and was known for her Christmas cookies, toffee bars, cinnamon rolls, and bread.

Anita’s gift to everyone was her grace, intelligence, her natural beauty, and smile. And most importantly, her unwavering, strength, hope and joy in all circumstances because of her faith in God.
